POSITIVE CONSEQUENCES
NEGATIVE CONSEQUENCES
What is discussed during student/teacher conferences?
The unproductive and/or disruptive behavior itself is addressed directly.
Ms. Tyack explains why the behavior in question is inappropriate during class time.
Then, both student and teacher work together to figure out what may have led to the behavior in question (these are called stressors/triggers).
From there, both student and teacher discuss ways to cope with those stressors/triggers in the future.
A plan is created together for what to do the next time the student faces those stressors/triggers.
That way, it is less likely for the behavior in question to occur again.
This is not a one-stop "fix it" shop - Ms. Tyack understands that practicing coping strategies and unlearning old habits takes time.
There will be mistakes made, and that's okay! As long as you are trying and you are learning from each mistake, that's all that matters.
